Silicon nitride

Silicon nitride (Si3N4)

Silicon nitride is a chemical compound of the silicon and nitrogen elements with the chemical formula Si3N4. It features an excellent combination of material properties such as high fracture toughness, good thermal shock resistance and good flexural strength. They are nearly as light as silicon carbide (SiC).

Its good mechanical properties make Si3N4 predestined for applications like balls and rolling elements for light and extremely precise bearings, heavy-duty ceramic forming tools and automotive components subjected to high stress.
